Taiwan media delegation visits People’s Daily

A news exchange delegation visited People’s Daily on Thursday morning, headed by Taiwan’s Straits Exchange Foundation chairman Chiang Pin-kung. Zhang Yannong, president of People’s Daily warmly welcomed the delegation.

Zhang said news media is the bridge linking the mainland and Taiwan as well as a pioneer in promoting cross-Strait interaction.

For a long time, cross-Strait news exchange has played an irreplaceable role in broadening horizons, increasing understanding and enhancing mutual trust of compatriots on both sides.

Like other media on Chinese mainland, People’s Daily has carried out various forms of exchange and cooperation with Taiwan counterparts and made deep friendships with them while commonly witnessing and promoting cross-Strait relationships.

Zhang also said the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations has provided more exciting topics, more vivid forms, richer content and broader horizons for news exchange and cooperation, as well as raising new demands.

Zhang expressed his sincere hopes that cross-Strait news exchange would continue to be promoted and the normalization of news exchange would be achieved as soon as possible to keep up with the new situation of “great exchange, great cooperation and great development”, so as to better serve both people and promote cross-Strait harmony and stability.

Chiang Pin-kung said in the past ten years, cross-Strait exchanges, whether exchange between journalists or news-gathering cooperation’s as well as the exchange of news operations, were quite close and frequent.

Currently, both sides correspondents are providing the most rapid and first-hand reports, playing a greatly important role in increasing mutual understanding between the mainland and Taiwan.

After “three links”, the information exchange is the fourth link; therefore “four links” will be achieved. This will can not only shorten the psychological distance between people on both sides, but also further promote cross-Strait media cooperation

After the meeting, Wu Hengquan, editor-in-chief of People’s Daily, hosted a dinner in honor of Chiang Pin-kung.
